About The Position

To provide professional expertise and oversight in the planning and implementation of comprehensive health and nutrition services to agency clients including children, young adults and adults. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing the agency's Health and Nutrition programming, including internal initiatives and collaborations with external partners. The position supports staff, families, and community partners with training on various health and nutrition topics such as CACFP, SFSP, EPSDT, CPR, First Aide, Medication, and Health and Safety. A key responsibility is overseeing record-keeping, reporting, and menu planning in compliance with USDA/CACFP, SFSP, and Head Start guidelines, including the submission of the Coordinated application from the Michigan Department of Education. The role also involves collaborating with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Office of Contracts and Procurement for contract reviews and approvals, and overseeing food service operations with Nutrition Managers to ensure food quality and vendor compliance. The Assistant Director will assist in developing programs that empower clients in their families' health and development, monitor health and nutrition data, and lead efforts to ensure the health and safety of clients and staff. This position requires a self-starter capable of multitasking, providing direct supervision to department staff, and preparing timely reports. The role includes analyzing data, attending community meetings to promote programs, cultivating partnerships with organizations like school districts and community agencies, and acting as an advocate for low-income individuals and agency clients. Upholding agency policies and procedures, including Head Start Standards of Conduct, and participating in staff development are also essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Nursing, Public Health, or Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist, Food Service Administration OR a minimum of five to eight years of experience in a related field OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus.
  • Requires knowledge of child care licensing regulations.
  • Proficient knowledge of internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and manage the agencies Health and Nutrition programming. Including internal programming and external partners.
  • Support training to staff, families and community partners on health and nutrition including; Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)Summer Food Service Program(SFSP), Early and Periodic, Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT), CPR, First Aide, Medication, and Health and Safety trainings.
  • Responsible for overseeing record keeping , reporting, and menu planning in compliance with USDA/CACFP, SFSP and Head Start guidelines including completion and submission of the Coordinated application from Michigan Department of Education.
  • Work collaboratively with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Office of Contracts and Procurement to coordinate the review and approval of contracts for all vendors and participating school districts, ensuring compliance with applicable state, federal, and program requirements.
  • In conjunction with the Nutrition Managers, oversee food service operations, including food purchasing, food quality, and vendor compliance.
  • Ensure invoices, purchasing records, and food quality standards are maintained at the highest level and in accordance with USDA, CACFP, SFSP, and Head Start requirements.
  • Assist agency in developing programs and experiences that will support and enhance the clients role as the principal influence in their families health, nutrition and development.
  • Engage in ongoing monitoring of agency level health and nutrition data to encourage and improve healthy living.
  • Lead and promote efforts to ensure the health and safety of clients including staff, children and adults per agency, federal, state and local policies, including active participation in agency level Safety Committee.
  • Provide direct supervision and oversight to department staff including managers and coordinators.
  • Prepare and distribute timely reporting and tracking regarding health and nutrition documentation.
  • Complete monthly reports on area activities and program progress toward goals with recommended modifications to plans.
  • Analyze data and reports using abstract reasoning.
  • Attend community meetings and events within all service areas to promote community awareness for the purpose of program recruitment and enrollment.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain collaborative organizational partners, including school districts, community agencies that host SFSP, higher education, social services agencies.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.
  • Serve as an advocate for low-income persons in the community through means that may include but not be limited to membership in an advocacy group, participation in a professional organization, and efforts to affect present community services in a manner that would insure their greater availability or efficiency.
  • Act as an advocate for agency clients attempting to secure services or assistance from other agencies.
  • Ensure no Child is left unsupervised at any time.
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff development and in-service training activities.
  • Attend agency departmental meetings and trainings.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
