About The Position

The Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement will work with a team of professionals to advance the mission and vision of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Engagement. This staff member will develop resources, programs, and systems that support the members, leaders, and advisors of fraternity and sorority chapters and governing councils. This includes supporting leadership development programs, campus traditions, and student-led initiatives in fraternity and sorority life and other programs under the Leadership and Engagement umbrella.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years experience (2 years of grad experience is equivalent to one year of professional experience) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer focus, with the ability to operate in a collaborative and professional manner with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse university community.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to present views in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Exceptional project management skills to include the ability to plan ahead, prioritize, organize, and lead multiple concurrent initiatives; seeing projects to successful completion.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience in effectively creating documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policy and procedures established within the University, the Division of Campus Life and the Office of Student Engagement.
  • Knowledge of student learning and operational assessment processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and proactively problem-solve.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time experience in fraternity/sorority life or related Student Affairs field.
  • Knowledge of and a professional commitment to student development and effective higher education administration practices.
  • Prior experience with social Greek letter organizations.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population and develop rapport with students.

Responsibilities

  • Directly advises two of the four governing councils - National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), Interfraternity Council (IFC), and United Greek Council (UGC).
  • Collaborates to advise 28 individual organizations through a chapter coaching model.
  • Regularly meets with students to advise, coach, collaborate, and partner in their FSE experience.
  • Serves as an advisor to organizations engaging in the OFSE event planning process, providing expert guidance to students on logistics, policy, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensures students are following university policies, OFSE protocols, and council guiding documents.
  • Advises and provides support for recruitment/intake processes and expansion processes for two governing councils.
  • Supervises, trains, develops, and evaluates undergraduate student staff.
  • Supports the Old Gold Standards program as a guiding framework for chapters to develop strategic plans and measure their progress toward goal attainment.
  • Coordinates community-wide programming, including but not limited to civic engagement initiatives and community-building events for the entire FSE community.
  • Serves as a collaborative, supportive, active team member for OFSE and Leadership & Engagement programming.
  • Coordinates FSE New Member experience, which includes, but is not limited to, It’s All Greek to Me, FSE Fall Festival, new member engagement events, and new member education.
  • Interprets University policies and procedures for student leaders, council executive board members, chapter advisors, alumni/ae, inter/national organization staff, and parents.
  • Maintains accurate demographic, statistical, and academic performance for fraternity and sorority community members.
  • Maintains electronic resources and chapter forms to coordinate efforts in compliance with recognition protocols.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops and trainings, including but not limited to: risk management, scholarship and academic support, social event management, values-based leadership, group dynamics, conflict management, etc.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely communication to campus stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with campus partners to design, market, and facilitate educational programming for the FSE community.
  • Serves as point of contact for advisers, university alumni/ae, faculty, staff, and inter/national headquarters.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
  • Serves on a variety of committees within Leadership and Engagement, the Division of Campus Life, and the University community.
  • Participates in all department professional activities.
  • Provides customer service to students, parents, and partners as needed to address both immediate and chronic, or time-sensitive Fraternity & Sorority Engagement concerns.
  • Attends, participates in, and provides support for all staff training, in-services, retreats, departmental or supervisor meetings, and/or University committees as requested.
