About The Position

Analyze student financial aid data and operate within federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines; award financial assistance to eligible students; provide related counseling services for students and parents; assist in the administration of the FA Department. All duties require strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information from students and families. This position along with the Director, Assistant Director, and Student Services Assistant, must operate closely as a team as well as with the Admission Office, Student Accounts Office, Registrar, and other offices in the SVC community. This description is not intended to be all inclusive, but rather provided as a general statement of the nature and duties of the position. The staff member may be required to perform other assignments of a similar nature related to the effective operation of the department or as a developmental experience as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Financial Aid Office experience is required

Responsibilities

  • Counsel and advise students/families regarding all aspects of financial aid including making SVC affordable, being prepared to deal with a wide range of emotions.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with other members of the SVC community regarding FA.
  • Keep current in all aspects of FA, by subscribing to and taking advantage of online/in person training and webinars and using these tools for research.
  • Recommend and assist with development of policy and procedure.
  • Train support staff and work studies, as necessary.
  • Work with students/families regarding all aspects of financial aid and the functions of the FA office regardless of being responsible for the specific program.
  • Manage specific programs, such as federal and state financial aid and other state and locally sponsored programs, tuition waivers, verification, withdrawals etc. dependent upon the needs of the office. Includes but not limited to awarding, reporting, reconciling, developing written procedures, and other functions of the program as required.
  • Assist whenever necessary with the functions of the Director.
  • Be able to advise students/families of Financial Aid Programs
  • Be involved in the development projects relating to automation and reporting/tracking mechanisms for Colleague.
  • Participate and present Financial Aid information at Admission events.
  • Be prepared to work extended hours during peak processing times and special events.
  • Limited travel may be required to attend Financial Aid training, depending upon content of the training and availability of travel funds.
  • Work independently and without daily supervision.
  • Be able to make sound decisions using professional judgment.
  • Must meet deadlines for special projects while completing daily tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned when necessary to meet the needs of the FA Office.
