Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
  • Three (3) years of Accounting or Finance experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public finance, budgeting, accounting, and public administration; government auditing procedures; and relevant federal and state laws
  • Skills in strategic planning, organization and decision-making, preparing and presenting concise and logical written and oral reports
  • Valid State of Georgia Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of Accounting or Finance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises personnel and daily operations of the department; reviews and approves journal entries; reviews all payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable entries to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assists the Director in the development of accounting procedures and the administration of the budget.
  • Performs the duties of the Finance Director in his or her absence.
  • Maintains the accounting system to ensure smooth operations; identifies and resolves problems with software and related applications for users; provides training and answers questions.
  • Monitors the maintenance of financial and cash controls to ensure compliance and to minimize loss.
  • Prepares journal entries and reconciliations of DSDA.
  • Monitors employee benefits and reconciles monthly insurance reports.
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining the annual budget, including compiling data, researching information, and forecasting budget projections; monitors the budget monthly.
  • Oversees and monitors project and grants accounting; reviews policies and procedures.
  • Works closely with the auditor and the Finance Director during the annual audit; assists in compiling the annual comprehensive financial report.
  • Oversees and monitors the asset list.
  • Interviews and hires staff; prepares performance evaluations; implements disciplinary actions as necessary.
