About The Position

Under limited supervision, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire physical plant, equipment and Medical Center property. Determines landscaping needs, ensures proper maintenance of buildings including plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, carpentry, painting and plant operations. Coordinates the planning and scheduling of maintenance operations and improvement projects with affected personnel and departments. Interface with Construction Project Managers as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or associated course of study. Experience gained over a period of seven to ten years in primary areas of responsibility may be considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
  • 3 years related management work experience in an institutional setting in order to gain a high level of knowledge of maintenance and engineering as it relates to plant operations and to coordinate planning of department activities.
  • Skill in verbal communication.
  • Skill in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Skill in using computer and a variety of personal productivity applications.
  • Knowledge of hospital and healthcare systems, practices, procedures and requirements related to technology and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare/hospital Maintenance and Plant Engineering operations
  • Knowledge of codes, standards and compliance requirements related to Facilities Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Employee has knowledge and understanding of patient and workforce safety as it relates to job duties.
  • Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and applies the knowledge to meet age-specific needs if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs works of subordinate supervisory personnel engaged in overseeing separate areas of buildings, grounds and equipment maintenance.
  • Develops, implements and ensures achievement of short- and long-term goals. Recommends and, upon approval, implements and administers policies and procedures for areas of responsibility. Provides input into department-wide policies and procedures.
  • Develops, secures approval of, implements and administers operating and capital budgets. Regularly monitors adherence to budgets, notifying supervisor of significant variances, and initiates corrective action as necessary.
  • Interviews, hires, orients, trains, and evaluates the performance of and, when necessary, disciplines and discharges subordinate personnel. Assists subordinate supervisory personnel in resolving complex employee-relations problems.
  • Develops and implements procedures for the inspection, evaluation and method of repairs to buildings and equipment. Oversees staff involvement in quality control and improvement efforts.
  • Evaluates the work of subordinate work groups regularly to ensure all state, federal and other governing agency standards, codes and regulations are adhered to and that all appropriate licenses, permits and certificates are obtained.
  • Consults with architects and engineers in the design and/or renovation of Medical Center buildings regarding staffing utilization, scheduling, equipment and material availabilities as well as to assess impact on existing facility and capacity to support additions or alterations.
  • Communicates regularly with other Medical Center personnel affected by buildings or grounds projects to ensure the smooth operation of Medical Center activities during maintenance of electrical systems, heating and cooling systems and the like.
  • Prepares various maintenance reports for Vice President, Operations such as project status reports, project/repair schedules, cost estimates, cost overruns, and so forth as well as various reports as required by government agencies.
  • Monitors, investigates and responds to customer feedback, modifying office systems as needed.
