We’re looking for an Assistant Director of Engineering to join our team in Girdwood, Alaska. What You’ll Do As the Assistant Director of Engineering , you’ll provide day-to-day leadership for the Maintenance team while supporting the Director of Engineering with capital, infrastructure, and facility projects. This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for guest room maintenance, preventative maintenance, work-order execution, building systems, and team performance.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible facilities, commercial building, hotel, industrial, institutional, or similar maintenance experience preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading maintenance technicians, tradespeople, or facilities employees preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pumps, motors, controls, and commercial building systems.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting standby generators and emergency power systems.
  • Experience with a CMMS or electronic work-order system.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong organization, communication, follow-through, and leadership skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and computer proficiency.
  • Associate degree in a related technical field preferred; equivalent technical education, apprenticeship, military training, or trade experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily Maintenance operations, prioritize work, monitor progress, and ensure safe, timely, high-quality completion.
  • Oversee guest room maintenance and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Partner with Housekeeping, Front Office, and Rooms leadership to quickly identify and resolve maintenance issues.
  • Use the resort’s CMMS to manage work orders, preventative maintenance, equipment history, and department performance.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, pumps, motors, controls, electrical systems, generators, and other commercial building equipment.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective solutions.
  • Develop practical procedures, checklists, and workflows that improve efficiency and accountability.
  • Coordinate contractors, major repairs, shutdowns, and maintenance projects while minimizing disruption to resort operations.
  • Train and develop Maintenance employees while promoting safe work practices.
  • Support capital, infrastructure, and facility projects alongside the Director of Engineering.
  • Serve as the Engineering department leader when the Director is unavailable and respond to significant building or equipment emergencies.
