Assistant Director of Engineering
About The Position
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is seeking an Assistant Director of Engineering to oversee daily engineering operations across guestrooms, public areas, outlets, spa, and back-of-house facilities. This role involves developing and managing preventive maintenance programs, performing and coordinating timely repairs of all hotel systems, equipment, and fixtures, and conducting routine inspections to ensure compliance with all safety, fire, life, environmental, and regulatory standards. The Assistant Director will respond to emergency maintenance needs and critical/VIP guest requests promptly, supervise, schedule, and support the engineering team, and monitor labor logs, attendance, and staffing levels to maintain cost efficiency. Additionally, this position will lead, mentor, and develop a multi-skilled team while fostering a positive, accountable, and service-driven culture, monitor energy usage and collaborate on sustainability initiatives, and assist with budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and cost control. The role also supports capital projects, renovations, and contractor oversight, communicates operational issues to the Director of Engineering, and collaborates with other departments to ensure seamless hotel operations. The Assistant Director will lead by example with a hands-on, guest-focused approach, promoting safety, service excellence, and Fairmont brand values.
Requirements
- Technical degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or Facilities Management
- 1st class operating engineer license is preferred
- Minimum 5–8 years of progressive luxury hotel engineering experience
- Previous supervisory or management experience
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems
- Working knowledge of Building Management Systems
