About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Assistant Director will directly supervise employees in the Engineering Department. This position will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The Assistant Director shall also perform the duties and responsibilities of the Director in his/her absence as well as those of the Engineers they supervises. Maintains and contributes to a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
  • Three to five year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Be able to read and interpret blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Be able to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Be able to use communication equipment such as radios, and phones; and, be able to communicate effectively through written routine reports and correspondence as well as to speak effectively before managers, clients, employees and the general public.
  • Be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; and to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions as well as solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guest service in a positive and helpful manner.
  • Coordinate and inspect routine maintenance in guest rooms such as filter changes; radio, television, and telephone installation; and furniture, wall, tile, and plumbing fixture repair.
  • Direct workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair.
  • Keep Director of Engineering promptly and fully informed on all problems or unusual matters of significance so prompt corrective action can be taken.
  • Assist Engineers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Direct workers in dismantling, assembling, and installing equipment.
  • Maintain a spare parts inventory and order parts and supplies using correct procedures.
  • Assist Engineers through interpretation of specifications, blueprints and work orders.
  • Enforce OSHA, federal, state and local safety regulations.
  • Recommend measures to improve work methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and safety of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Estimate labor requirements and establish work procedures to meet completion schedules.
  • Conduct required rounds, read meters and gauges, and perform preventive maintenance to extend life of hotel assets.
  • Research information on unfamiliar equipment before attempting repairs.
  • Confers with other managers and executives to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Follows and supports Service Commitment and Core Values.
  • Clean and care for work area, tools, and equipment as well as picking up and removing trash throughout the entire facility and grounds.
  • Responsible for the efficient use of consumable energy products such as electricity, domestic water, and propane.
