The Assistant Director of Development is an integral member of a Central team or Development Office (DOFF) and is responsible for securing philanthropic support for an assigned area of Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. Under the guidance of department/divisional leadership, the Assistant Director will organize and implement strategies for effective relationships with prospects and donors, interact with constituents at all stages in the development cycle, with a focus on the discovery and qualification of prospects to meet fundraising goals and objectives. The Assistant Director will manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and donors with a focus. The Assistant Director is incentive eligible if at least 50% of effort is spent on annual gift fundraising. Wilmer is a unique department with 10 clinics across Maryland and Northern VA and 300,000 outpatient visits per year (10% of all JHM outpatient visits) that generates over 15,000 surgeries annually. Wilmer has roughly 114 Clinical faculty and 49 Research faculty for whom the development team secures philanthropic funds. In addition, the team regularly organizes and manages many Institute-wide, clinic and division (9 sub-specialty divisions)-specific fundraising priorities, for which each gift officer plays a key role. The team brings in between 1,700 and 2,000 gifts annually. Due to the average age of our patient base, Wilmer also receives a very large number of memorial gifts which increases the time needed to properly steward the family and donors.
