About The Position

This role is for an Assistant Director of Development within BYU Athletics. The position requires a commitment to BYU's mission and the ability to cultivate and secure major gifts to advance BYU Athletics. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of BYU's distinctive mission, rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and a deep care for the success of student-athletes. The role involves innovative development activities, donor engagement, networking, and providing exceptional service to current donors. The position also requires hosting events and representing BYU Athletics as an ambassador.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing, public relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend, which may be verified during the application process.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of proven experience in fundraising, development, or a related field, with a demonstrated ability to cultivate and close major gifts.
  • Background in athletics as a student-athlete, coach, and/or administrator
  • Proven fundraising skills within a university athletic department, including a demonstrated ability to successfully solicit and secure major gifts

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a portfolio of prospective donors, focusing on major gift opportunities to advance BYU Athletics.
  • Design and execute innovative development activities to enhance donor retention, reactivation, acquisition, and growth.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals through personalized outreach and effective donor engagement.
  • Network extensively with current donors and influential leaders in the professional, business, and civic communities.
  • Leverage relationships within the Cougar Club membership base to identify and engage new donors.
  • Provide exceptional service to current donors, ensuring their ongoing connection to and satisfaction with BYU Athletics.
  • Support Cougar Club memberships, assisting with ticket renewals, attending events, and addressing donor needs.
  • Facilitate meaningful interactions between donors, administrators, coaches, and student-athletes to deepen relationships and demonstrate the impact of donor contributions.
  • Guide donors in fulfilling their planned giving interests and desires, aligning their philanthropic goals with BYU Athletics’ priorities.
  • Host prospective and current donors at events, games, and personal meetings to create memorable, impactful experiences.
  • Serve as a key ambassador for BYU Athletics, representing the program’s values, vision, and achievements to stakeholders.
