About The Position

Our Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC), overseen by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), ensures the well-being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0-17) who cross the US border without an adult. Unlike traditional congregate care settings, our approach involves placing unaccompanied children in foster homes while diligently searching for and assessing potential sponsors identified in the US. During their stay with us, we provide medical care, case management, engaging life skills classes, and essential mental health services. Under the supervision of the Director of Case Management, the Assistant Director of Case Management will assist in the oversite of Case Managers working within the Unaccompanied Children Program. Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant behavioral/social sciences field preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, education, or other human services profession required
  • NYC ACS or private agency child welfare experience required
  • Familiarity with OCFS, OPWDD, OMH, the ORR Network, and other relevant municipal and state agencies
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications
  • Flexibility to work when families are available to meet
  • Bilingual required - English/Spanish, English/Creole, English/French, English/Portuguese
  • Ability to work well with people from many cultures, including recent immigrants, non-English speakers, and LGBTQ children
  • Ability to travel to other agency locations
  • Valid NYS Driver's License preferred
  • Computer work requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time
  • Time on your feet for up to several hours a day
  • Ability to commute via public transportation for lengthy periods of time (i.e., train, plane, car)
  • Walk up/down stairs
  • Ability to travel to various required locations

  • Regular hours Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Must be flexible to meet program needs
  • Evening and weekend may be required

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee each minor's initial intake requirements, assessments, individual service plan, family reunification, and discharge
  • Train, supervise, and manage the daily operations of up to 12 Case Managers at a given time
  • Responsible for case management services for the unaccompanied children assigned to your team; carry as small caseload (as assigned)
  • Submit daily Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) required reports.
  • Ensure all services provided to each minor are properly documented in each case file and UC Portal
  • Respond to client emergencies within our outside of scheduled work hours
  • Provide biweekly supervision to each Case Manager
  • Participate in weekly staffing meetings with Clinicians, Unification specialist, Case Managers, Case Coordinators, and other ORR staff
