About The Position

The Assistant Director of Career Development performs career advising duties with Isenberg School of Management students seeking professional-level internships and/or permanent career outcomes in a wide variety of corporate and non-profit organizations. The Assistant Director serves Isenberg students enrolled full-time and part-time, both in person on the Amherst and Charles River campuses as well as in Isenberg’s online and hybrid programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in business, counseling, education, or related field) and two (2) years of professional experience in business or higher education services OR a master’s degree in business administration, counseling, or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, representatives of business and government, faculty, alumni, and senior corporate executives, including evidence of a clear understanding of and a commitment to cultural, social, economic, and ethnic diversity.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to independently prioritize work and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Ability to participate in team projects as assigned.
  • Ability and willingness to attend meetings and other work-related activities both on and off campus; with and without groups of students.
  • Ability and willingness to work some nights and weekends and to travel locally on an infrequent basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in career services and/or higher education environment.
  • An understanding of market trends and employment opportunities for business students.
  • Experience with technologies used in career services, e.g., Handshake, uConnect.

Responsibilities

  • Develops effective advising programs and learning tools for focused career searches, deploying these programs in one-on-one and workshop/small group settings.
  • Researches key industry hiring trends and opportunities affecting business school students and provides information to students, and upon request, to faculty and administration.
  • As assigned, participates in and/or leads projects that support Isenberg students’ career development as well as other goals and objectives of the Office of Career Success, the Isenberg School, and/or University.
  • Supports student preparation for job search by reviewing student resumes, conducting practice interviews, and helping students learn to target potential employers by industry.
  • Coaches students to develop, refine and implement an appropriate and realistic job search strategy for different industry segments.
  • Facilitates students’ career development skills and demonstrates capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to their professional success.
  • Utilizes interpersonal skills to source job/internship leads from social media, professional associations, alumni, and professional job boards.
  • Performs duties as assigned or required to meet goals and objectives of the Office of Career Success, the Isenberg School, and/or University.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
