About The Position

The Assistant Director of Business Advising and Recruitment for Career and Professional Development (CPD) advises students and alumni on career and professional development, while supporting the planning and execution of career education programs and employer engagement initiatives. The Assistant Director helps develop and deliver programs designed to enhance students’ career readiness and understanding of professional opportunities. Responsibilities include coordinating event logistics and communications, supporting recruiting and employer engagement efforts, managing operational processes for CPD programs and initiatives, and fostering connections among students, alumni, employers, and professional partners. The Assistant Director advises students and alumni in the areas of professional development, helps develop and execute career-related programs designed to enhance students’ knowledge of career fields, and establish links between students and employers, alumni, and professionals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One or more years of full-time experience in college/university career services and an understanding of career development and opportunities relevant to liberal arts students and alumni.
  • In the absence of higher education experience, a combination of education and relevant experience providing a similar background and capabilities will be considered.
  • Experience in higher education, student services, program management, employer engagement, event coordination, or related fields preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as personal and professional development advisor to current students and alumni pursuing full-time employment, internships, and post-graduate opportunities. Focus areas will include all areas of business and other industries as needed.
  • Counsels and provides career advice to assist students and alumni in developing and applying personal, academic and job-search competencies and decision-making skills.
  • Supports employer engagement initiatives and serves as a liaison to employers, alumni, and external partners.
  • Manages logistics, communications, registrations, event materials, and other operational processes for CPD programs, employer events, networking opportunities, workshops, recruiting activities, and career trips both in-person and virtually.
  • Supports recruiting and employer engagement efforts by managing relationships with employers and alumni partners as well as coordinating student outreach initiatives.
  • Manages designated communities in the CPD Canvas course and other CPD communication channels.
  • Engages and manages alumni career volunteers, employer partners, and CPD event participants.
  • Supports the planning, logistics, marketing, and execution of career affinity programs and events both on and off campus.
  • Partners with the Office of Alumni Engagement and University Development on engagement of alumni in related career fields.
  • Cultivates relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and external partners to support career education initiatives and student engagement opportunities.
  • Develops, collects, and maintains relevant career resource material for designated industries.
  • Liaises with key internal partners (e.g., student affairs, alumni engagement, development, faculty and staff) and external partners (e.g., admissions representatives, recruiters, alumni) to create a culture of collaboration among a variety of stakeholders across the University.
  • Promotes and practices NACE Principles of Professional Conduct.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.
