About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) is a highly skilled leader who contributes to Extendicare’s purpose of Helping People Live Better by supporting and leading a high-performing team dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to all residents. Under the direction of the Director of Care, the ADOC leads and provides oversight for assigned clinical areas as per Extendicare’s model of care and collaborates with other members of the care team to ensure exceptional resident-centered care and best practices consistent with Extendicare standards, accreditation requirements, and all applicable regulations. The ADOC engages with residents and families and promotes a customer service philosophy to continuously improve resident satisfaction and achieve our mission to provide people with the care they need, wherever they call home.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as registered staff in the long-term care sector.
  • Current and unrestricted registration/licensing as a Registered Nurse with the applicable provincial licensing body.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with EHR systems, specifically PointClickCare and Point of Care.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven history of leading quality improvement initiatives and achieving positive resident outcomes.
  • Strong team-building and time management skills.
  • Strong clinical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years, with at least one (1) year in a managerial or supervisory role in a healthcare setting.
  • Bachelor of Nursing preferred, or post-secondary diploma in Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee assigned program areas as per Extendicare’s Model of Care, ensuring effective implementation and performance in compliance with legislative and professional standards.
  • Assess risks and mitigation strategies, escalating and managing as appropriate in collaboration with organizational teams and departments.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all regulations, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and labour/employment legislation, including timely investigations and consistent action planning.
  • Actively participate and work with the Director of Care, interdisciplinary team, care staff, residents, and families to deliver and optimize resident care.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of quality improvement initiatives to achieve successful outcomes and meet established goals.
  • Engage with vendors on quality initiatives and training requirements, and collaborate with community health partners to enhance resident care.
  • Foster professional growth and engagement of team members through mentorship, training, and development initiatives in partnership with the DOC. This includes identifying skill gaps, providing coaching and feedback, and encouraging continuous learning.
  • Uphold and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, Values, and philosophy regarding ethics, morality, and integrity.
  • Apply a customer service mindset to accept and respond to feedback (complaints, recognition, or suggestions) from residents, families, vendors, and team members with acknowledgement and empathy.
