About The Position

The Assistant Director of Building Operations, Physical Plant, and Utilities oversees daily operations, maintenance, and projects for the organization’s facilities. Key responsibilities include supervising staff, coordinating maintenance and repair work, assisting with budget management, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and managing projects related to buildings, grounds, and utilities. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Facilities.

Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business, Engineering, or a related area is often required, though some experience in utility management may substitute for the degree.
  • Experience: Multiple years of experience in facilities, physical plant, or utilities management, including supervisory and administrative duties.
  • Skills: Strong project management, budget management, and leadership skills. Familiarity with building systems, safety regulations, and standard office software essential.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills for team management, conflict resolution, and relationship building.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems, especially with complex projects and delays.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in managing phases of project development and implementation relating to HVAC systems and controls.
  • Participates in developing designs and/or technical data from customer specifications while assuring that various codes and University requirements are met.
  • Establishes criteria and/or standards for the design and development of environmental comfort and automation control systems, assuring compatibility with existing engineered features and quality.
  • Establishes goals and objectives for testing of software and hardware design.
  • Establishes protocols for maintenance of control and automation systems, including installation, discontinuance, diagnosis and emergency repairs.
  • Assists in long range planning for the physical development of University’s utility infrastructure and environmental control systems.
  • Support the management of utility systems like HVAC , electrical, and plumbing.
  • Coordinate utility system outages and other system problems.
  • Prepare utility cost analysis and utilization reports.
  • Assist the Director with budget development and management.
  • Help with personnel management, including hiring and staffing plans.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and reviews work of consultants engaged to serve the University relative to the development of Central Plant Utilities, building HVAC , and automation systems.
  • Establishes employee work schedules, conducts performance reviews, and assures adherence to safety protocols.
