About The Position

Assistant Directors provide services to recruit, evaluate, admit, and enroll qualified applicants to Vermont State University. Assistant Directors provide support in the execution of strategic institutional enrollment initiatives and may be assigned to oversee specialized office functions such as recruitment travel, special event coordination, or other specialized functions as directed. Assistant Directors assist with general office management as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree student personnel services or other appropriate discipline desirable, plus a minimum of four years of relevant admissions experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Current, valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Willing to work a flexible/non-traditional schedule.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Excellent customer service, public speaking and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong planning, administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with high school students, parents, school counselors, students/faculty/staff/alumni, and others, requiring group speaking skills, individual interviewing/advising skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives, cultures and an inclusive environment.
  • Ability to use data-informed decision making to inform resource allocation, processes and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous VSC experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of web-based CRM, preferably Slate

Responsibilities

  • Assist the director or associate director to oversee a principal or specialized admissions function, for example: recruitment travel, staff training, committee work, event operations, or similar functions.
  • Responsible for implementing established admissions policies and procedures.
  • Develop strong relationships with prospective students from inquiry through to enrollment, including family members, and school counselors using a variety of communication methods.
  • Review and evaluate applications and transcripts, including preliminary evaluation of transfer credits, interview prospective students, provide general admission and enrollment advisement with a designated prospective student population.
  • Communicate with applicants about the general college decision process; provide relevant information regarding financial aid, billing, advising, academics, campus life, etc.
  • Manage an assigned population of students by type or academic interest and a recruitment plan including developing and maintaining relationships with schools and organizations, attend college fairs, classroom presentations and other recruitment events.
  • Deliver presentations designed to engage prospective students and provide information about the admissions and enrollment process.
  • Assist with planning and organizing various special admissions events.
  • Assist the Director or Associate Director with department administrative tasks and functions as needed.
  • Work with campus partners to support enrollment initiatives.
  • Provide training as needed to admissions counselors, student ambassadors, etc.
  • Keep abreast of current Vermont State University programs, policies and procedures.
