About The Position

The Assistant Director of Admissions advances The Stony Brook School's enrollment goals through student recruitment, family engagement, marketing, application processing, and application review. The position supports prospective families from initial inquiry through enrollment while representing SBS through campus visits, admissions events, and recruitment travel. A significant focus is proactive recruitment and relationship building across local, domestic, and select international markets. The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator and presenter who is relational, organized, energetic, collaborative, and aligned with the mission of The Stony Brook School.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 2–5 years of relevant professional experience preferred in admissions, education, student services, recruitment, marketing, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and public-speaking skills.
  • Strong relationship-building, organizational, time-management, and follow-through skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM/enrollment management systems, databases, financial aid platforms, and standard office technology.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for recruitment, including local and domestic travel, and international travel.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend admissions programs.
  • Ability to manage confidential student and family information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Guides prospective families from initial inquiry through enrollment, providing responsive and personalized support.
  • Conducts campus tours, applicant interviews, and family meetings and responds to inquiries by phone, email, video, and in person.
  • Connects prospective students with appropriate faculty, coaches, students, and programs based on their interests.
  • Clearly and authentically communicates the distinctive value of a Stony Brook education.
  • Actively recruits students through local, regional, national, and international outreach and travel.
  • Represents SBS at school visits, admissions fairs, conferences, athletic showcases, receptions, and community events.
  • Helps expand recruitment throughout the New York tri-state area, Northeast, South, West, and strategic international markets.
  • Develops relationships and new recruitment pipelines with schools, counselors, educational consultants, churches, athletic programs, community organizations, alumni, and current parents.
  • Reviews applicant files, including transcripts, recommendations, testing, essays, and interview information.
  • Conducts interviews and prepares applicant evaluations and admission recommendations.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Admissions Committee and contributes to thoughtful, consistent, mission-aligned decisions.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding applicant and family information.
  • Helps plan and execute Open Houses, shadow days, information sessions, admitted student programs, counselor events, athletic showcases, fairs, and receptions.
  • Participates in virtual admissions programs and recruitment events.
  • Collaborates with faculty, coaches, students, parents, and alumni to create engaging prospective-family experiences.
  • Maintains accurate applicant information within the School's enrollment management systems
  • Tracks recruitment activity, applications, enrollment outcomes, and family engagement.
  • Supports admissions research, reporting, marketing, digital communications, and storytelling.
  • Helps ensure prospective families receive timely, accurate, and engaging communications throughout the admissions process.
  • Provides support across Admissions Office functions as needed.
