About The Position

The Assistant Director of Admission at Harvey Mudd College, under the guidance of the Senior Associate Director of Admission, and in collaboration with the Associate Director of Admission/Communications Team Lead, will play an active and integral role in a wide variety of activities within the Office of Admission. This position requires full engagement in the entire admissions process. As part of the Admission Communications Team, and with the guidance and support of the HMC Office of Communications and Marketing, the Assistant Director will develop and execute social media and digital enrollment marketing strategies that advance the College’s enrollment goals and align with the College’s brand and visual identity. They will be an essential part of the team that enrolls a class that advances Harvey Mudd College’s mission to educate leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with a deep understanding of the impact of their work on society. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the dynamic needs of the Office of Admission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3 or more years of previous professional experience in college admissions or related environments is required.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the College’s automobile insurance carrier.
  • Understanding of social media strategy, content development, audience engagement, and analytics. Ability to translate institutional priorities into effective enrollment marketing campaigns, and make recommendations informed by performance metrics and enrollment goals.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education and Harvey Mudd College’s mission “to educate engineers, scientists and mathematicians well versed in all of these areas and in the humanities, social sciences and the arts so that they may assume leadership in their fields with a clear understanding of the impact of their work on society.”
  • Ability to work flexibly and maintain productivity while working with competing priorities.
  • Ability to build rapport and work cooperatively with individuals from varying abilities, backgrounds, interests, beliefs, and roles (students, staff, faculty, etc.).

  • Proficient in the operation of a computer, data entry techniques, and specified software including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.) and G Suite (Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Slides etc.).
  • Willing and able to travel (up to two weeks at a time, seasonal) and work weekend and evening hours as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in design tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Experience with Technolutions’ Slate CRM is a plus.
  • Experience that has resulted in an understanding and appreciation of highly selective admission is appealing but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Office of Admission’s social media and digital marketing initiatives. Develop, implement, and assess social media and digital advertising strategies that advance enrollment goals and align with Harvey Mudd College’s voice and identity. Monitor performance metrics and recommend enhancements to strengthen engagement and outcomes.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of social media content across multiple platforms. Collaborate with colleagues, student interns, and campus partners to develop content that supports recruitment and yield objectives while ensuring consistency in messaging and visual identity.
  • Support the development and implementation of email and text message campaigns for prospective students, families, and high school educators.
  • Coordinate the FIRST Robotics and VEX Robotics Scholarship selection processes. Manage the application review process and ensure the timely administration of both scholarship programs.
  • Serve as an integral member of the Admission team responsible for recruiting and enrolling students who fulfill the College’s mission.
  • Support the mission of the Office of Admission in growing the diversity within the applicant pool and enrolling class. Contribute to strategies and programming designed to meet this objective.
  • Learn the College’s mission and ethos. Keep current with the College’s academic programs, support services, and co-curricular offerings.
  • Represent the college and build relationships with prospective students, their families, high school counselors, and community members. This includes interviewing prospective students and some off-campus recruitment travel.
  • Evaluate applications for admission in a timely manner and participate fully in the committee-based selection process of candidates for admission.
  • Develop fluency in office tools and procedures, especially Techolution’s Slate CRM and WordPress.
  • Practice discretion and maintain confidentiality of records, correspondence, and information, regardless of the format.
  • Maintain focus on several activities and priorities. Anticipate seasonal variations in the workload.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
