About The Position

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing (DON) in implementing and directing all nursing services. This position interfaces closely with the medical staff, administration, nursing staff, and other departments to achieve the hospitals goals and objectives. The ADON collaborates with the DON in planning, organizing, and directing the delivery of quality general and psychiatric nursing care consistent with the facility’s goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Duties include staffing, training and development, revision of nursing policies and procedures, standards of performance, and communication regarding nursing issues to medical staff, department director’s and administration. Participates in departmental and team meetings to discuss patient care and develop treatment plans. Ensures compliance with all state, federal and regulatory agencies – meeting or exceeding regulatory compliance in delivery of care. Assists in the preparation of monthly reports and attend monthly meetings for quality, safety, and PI. Supervisors nursing supervisory team and acts as a role model for excellent customer service and hold all nursing staff to this standard. Partners with the DON to routinely review job assignments and utilization of staff to ensure that programs are staffed with the appropriate resources to ensure safe, high quality nursing care. Ensures high level of patients’ satisfaction with treatment. Collaborates with DON and People Services for staff recruitment and retention.

Requirements

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Associate’s degree in nursing required.
  • Current Registered Nurse license as required by state regulations in which the facility operates.
  • CPR certification is required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • De-escalation certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, and psychiatric patients across the lifespan preferred.
  • Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
