Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in nursing, required.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
  • 6-10 years of nursing experience, required.
  • 5-7 years of leadership/management experience, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in nursing, preferred.
  • Specialized certifications, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages operations and patient care activities in all areas of the facility in the absence of leadership.
  • Provides leadership to supervisors and team members by communicating and guiding toward achieving facility objectives.
  • Communicates, builds consensus, and guides departments toward achieving hospital objectives.
  • Promotes and maintains high-quality patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
  • Maintains a professional work environment that fosters team member respect, engagement, accountability, and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Promotes appreciative inquiry and evidence-based, ethical, and compassionate practice.
  • Provides direction and guidance to patient care unit team members and supervisors in clinical and operational concerns in the absence of leadership.
  • May provide input into performance reviews, hiring, promotions, and corrective actions.
  • Serves as a role model for standards of professional practice (clinical, educational, and leadership).
  • Monitors personnel, supply, and equipment considerations in the absence of leadership.
  • Assesses hospital activity, patient activity, and personnel resources to ensure equitable and appropriate staffing.
  • Ensures adherence to the established care delivery model, using knowledge of scope and standards of practice.
  • Facilitates continual compliance with JC, CMS, New York State, DOH, Public Health Law, HIPPA regulations, and System, hospital, and department standards.
  • Demonstrates broad understanding of the regulatory environment to ensure hospital compliance with requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of scope and standards of practice, healthcare legislation, and population health.
  • Identifies opportunities to initiate operational change within the facility using evidence-based strategies and solutions.
  • Performs related duties as required.
