About The Position

Palm Point is looking for an Assistant Director of Nursing who, In conjunction with the Director of Nursing (DON), is responsible for the administrative and clinical supervision of direct patient care including effective utilization of the nursing process to provide quality care, establish standards of practice, and provide effective fiscal management. Ensures quality client care that is in compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and the facility's policies and procedures. Provides leadership in maintaining standards for professional Nursing practice in the clinical setting.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited curriculum.
  • Active Florida RN Licensure or Compact State License required.
  • Two years of Nursing Leadership required. Three years experience in nursing required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and service excellence skills.
  • Detail oriented and able to multi-task and change directions quickly.
  • Able to adjust personal schedule to accommodate the needs of the facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Acute behavioral health experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, directs and carries out activities related to creating an environment of patient focused care by defining and achieving standards for quality patient care to include:
  • Assists DON with developing and implementing nursing service objectives, policies and procedures to maintain quality patient care. Continuously monitors Federal and State requirements and revises Departmental procedures accordingly. Maintains Joint Commission and CMS accreditation standards.
  • Monitors quality of care provided on units and the outcomes influenced by behavioral care programming. Works with interdisciplinary team to resolve any issues affecting quality of care. Works with the interdisciplinary team regarding 1:1 patients and keeping restraint and seclusion within both ECBH and UHS standards. Assists with action plans to improve services. Reviews incident reports and works with DON for any needed system changes or education.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, families, staff and the general public as needed. Assist DON with patient and family complaints. Responds to inquiries and provides information on nursing care and services, and may screen prospective patients to assure the facility has the ability to provide the care needed.
  • Assists DON with implementation of special projects and programs as needed.
  • Plans, organizes, and manages areas of responsibility to meet the standards set by the hospital and regulatory agencies.
  • Assists the DON in hiring, supervising, developing, evaluating, and disciplining staff and and/or monitors supervisors’ management of staff. Ensures staff is knowledgeable and competent to perform duties by providing orientation, training, and continuing education. Meets with staff members on an ongoing basis to review performance and provide feedback, guidance and instruction as needed. Assures appropriate work production and documentation in accordance with policies and regulations through audits, supervision, and goal setting.
  • Recommends fiscal or budgetary requirements necessary to maintain service within the department.
  • Provides for quality and timely reports/documentation on a monthly/quarterly basis, as required. Attends daily, monthly, quarterly meetings as expected.
  • Conducts Leadership Q15 audits on a rotation basis and reports findings as assigned. Acts as Administrator on Call on a rotation basis.
  • Assists DON with investigations as needed.
  • Provides meal break coverage during scheduled shift, as needed.
  • Participate on Team A for natural disasters, as needed.
  • Prepares nursing daily and monthly schedule within operating grids and budget.
  • Monitors department on an ongoing basis and adjusts FTE to patient census via staffing grid and nursing protocols. Directs staff rotations and reschedules personnel to meet increased or decreased nursing service demands.
  • Completes timecard corrections and reports any issues with tardiness, missed lunches or missed punches to the DON.
  • Oversees attendance, missed punches and lunch breaks through monitoring and corrective action when needed.
  • Complete any audits regarding staffing, including the annual staffing evaluation.
  • Schedules department orientation for new employees and assigns preceptors. Tracks preceptor assignments and process any required paperwork.
  • Works with Employee Health and Staff Development to schedule nursing employees for required training and screenings to include CPI, Healthstream and TSTs.
  • Serves as a mentor and trainer to new employees.
  • Oversees staff compliance with required hospital orientation, certification, licensure and trainings.
  • Oversees and implements onboarding program, orientation, on-going staff education, and orientation specialist program.
  • Plans, organizes, develops, and leads education programs.
  • May be assigned to perform House Supervisor, RN and/or MHT duties. In the absence of the DON assumes responsibility for the role as assigned.
