About The Position

The VCU School of Social Work is seeking an Assistant Director for its Master of Social Work (MSW) Program. This leadership role is crucial for supporting the academic, administrative, and curricular functions of the MSW Program, including its online delivery formats. The Assistant Director will collaborate with the MSW Program Director, Program Coordinator, faculty, and instructional staff to maintain high standards in teaching, curriculum implementation, and support for students and faculty. This is a 12-month term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, encompassing teaching, service, and program administration.

Requirements

  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program (doctoral degree preferred or in progress)
  • Experience in social work education and/or MSW program administration
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with online or hybrid social work education
  • Experience supervising faculty, adjunct instructors, or instructional staff

Responsibilities

  • Teach two (2) courses per calendar year.
  • Contribute to the quality and consistency of MSW curriculum delivery across program options.
  • Serve on University and School of Social Work committees as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the MSW Program Committee.
  • Participate in committee meetings and program-related activities as assigned.
  • Assist the MSW Program Director in implementing the MSW curriculum across all program options, including online formats.
  • Support curricular coherence and instructional quality across sections and modalities.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and supervise Course Content Coordinators/Leads.
  • Provide leadership, training, and ongoing support to Course Content Coordinators/Leads.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and assessment of Course-Embedded Faculty (CEFs).
  • Conduct interviews, review course evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to CEFs.
  • Maintain regular communication with CEFs during the semester to address instructional, student, and classroom management concerns.
  • Work with the MSW Program Coordinator to ensure all faculty are accurately added to and updated within the HR tracking spreadsheet.
  • Collaborate with the MSW Program Coordinator to process student-related correspondence, including Change of Grade forms, Incompletes, and Independent Study requests.
  • Review Registration Difficulty Forms and issue course overrides each semester.
  • Engage with students, as needed, regarding technical and academic standards.
  • Work with the MSW Program Coordinator to create and distribute the MSW Program newsletter for students and faculty.
  • Support clear and consistent communication across MSW Program stakeholders.
