About The Position

Under the oversight of the Director of Benefits and Total Rewards, the Assistant Director, Leaves Administration and Benefits oversees the daily operations of the Leaves Administration team and supports the administration of team member benefit programs across the healthcare delivery system. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and delivering a consistent, high-quality team member experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in leave administration and benefits, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Extensive knowledge of FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, ADA, PFL, and disability processing.
  • Experience working with unionized team members, preferably 1199 SEIU, CIR, SSOBA, and Local 30.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and HRIS systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels.

  • Ability to work onsite 100% Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all healthcare delivery system leave programs, including FMLA, Disability, Workers’ Compensation, Parental Leave, Paid Family Leave (PFL), ADA accommodations, and other federal and state-mandated leaves.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Leaves Administration team, including transactional processing, data support, and workflow management.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain best-practice policies, procedures, and workflows across the full leave lifecycle (intake, documentation review, communication, return-to-work, follow-up, and accommodations).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and industry-specific regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential leave and accommodation records in accordance with legal and best-practice standards.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on leave programs, providing guidance and education to leadership and team members.
  • Create, monitor, and distribute periodic leave reports to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the administration of team member benefits programs, including medical, dental, voluntary 403(b) retirement plans, unemployment benefits, and new hire benefits packages.
  • Educate team members one-on-one regarding benefit offerings during hire, promotion, or employment status changes.
  • Update People Systems to ensure accurate benefit enrollments and payroll deductions.
  • Communicate directly with vendors and team members regarding benefit changes, updates, and eligibility.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders (including vendors and unions) to ensure seamless benefits and leave administration.
  • Provide leadership, consultation, and coordination for leave and benefits programs and related initiatives.
  • Curate communication materials to promote understanding of leave eligibility, benefits enrollment, and team member responsibilities.
  • Foster strong working relationships across departments and with union representatives.
  • Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
