About The Position

The Assistant Director for Facilities & Space Management plays a critical role in supporting the Office of the Executive Vice President & Provost by managing day-to-day space planning and utilization for Schools and Provost units. This position collaborates across the University to ensure strategic alignment of facilities and planning initiatives including Facilities Management, Office of the Architect, Office of the University Registrar, Information Technology Services, and others. The role requires a forward-thinking approach to how the Office can best support academic units and optimize resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, or related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience in space management and facilities planning.
  • Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Knowledge of financial planning and budgeting for capital projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Schools and Provost units with day-to-day space management and allocation, ensuring units are well supported and equipped to meet their academic and operational needs.
  • Work with the Office of the University Registrar (UREG), Information Technology Services (ITS) and Facilities Management (FM) to manage classrooms and address facilities-related needs.
  • Lead space management efforts for Provost units including coordinating and managing small renovation projects from scoping through completion.
  • Provide data-driven space needs assessments and planning support for Schools and Provost units as inputs for the University’s capital planning process.
  • Support the Senior Director of Facilities & Capital Planning by coordinating academic input and conveying unit needs on capital projects, serving as project lead for defined scopes or phases as delegated.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of guidelines, processes, and policies around space use that promote effective and equitable space use across academic units.
  • Collaborate across University departments to align facilities planning with institutional goals, strategic initiatives, and resource stewardship.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for routine space-related questions and issues from Schools and Provost units, escalating complex matters as appropriate.
