About The Position

The Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS) Office is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals by providing effective and meaningful financial aid assistance. FAS is responsible for processing financial aid applications, administering various financial aid programs, and providing financial aid counseling to students and their families. This position is responsible for the operational management of an assigned team within Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS). Duties include oversight of daily operations, budget monitoring and assisting with budget allocation, internal and external communications, development and implementation of departmental assessments/measures of initiatives and programs, and regulatory compliance monitoring. The Assistant Director drives the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of departmental initiatives and processes, while ensuring full compliance with all applicable federal, state, institutional, and regulatory requirements. Through strong leadership, collaboration, and accountability, this role fosters a high-performing team environment that supports student success, advances organizational goals, and safeguards the integrity and effectiveness of financial aid operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • In depth knowledge of financial aid processes, policies and procedures or ability to quickly assimilate.
  • Ability to problemsolve, multitask and organize in a fastpaced collaborative environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Remains current in profession.

Responsibilities

  • Manages day to day operations and acts as primary contact for assigned team.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates a team of employees within SFAS.
  • Assists with planning, implementing, evaluating and controlling assigned function.
  • Develops, implements, coordinates and maintains multiple financial aid and scholarship processes within a team and provides expertise within these areas of specialization.
  • Educates on and determines eligibility for and awarding all aspects of federal, state and institutional financial aid and scholarship. Analyzes and processes financial aid and/or scholarship applications and determines eligibility for all aid programs according to federal, state and institutional regulations, policies and procedures. Implements and manages methods of work activity to assure compliance.
  • Responsible for communication with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders in the resolutions of complex issues, liaising between parties, educating on relevant policies and regulations, and following up as appropriate.
  • Maintains and applies knowledge of SFAS Policy Manual and procedures and keeps abreast of information that impacts the functioning of the SFAS department through the reading of related literature and by attending and participating in meetings and conferences. Proposes changes to policy, when needed, based on changes to regulations and programs.
