About The Position

The mission of the Anoka County Facilities Management & Construction Department is to provide a safe, clean, comfortable, and well‑maintained environment at the highest level of excellence. This role is essential in shaping safe, efficient, and future‑ready spaces that meet the evolving needs of Anoka County. The department has an opening for an Assistant Director, Facilities Management & Construction. This key leadership role is responsible for guiding the county’s long‑term facilities strategy, managing the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and overseeing planning and construction operations, ensuring effective development, redesigning, and management of more than 2.5 million square feet across 260 county buildings and properties. The Assistant Director will also provide input on planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expenses, and implementing change. In addition, the Assistant Director will directly oversee the department’s subject matter experts, who are responsible for a wide range of critical functions. This is a full-time, exempt position. Interviews will take place the week of August 17th, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in business administration, facilities management, engineering or related field.
  • Certification in Facilities Management through International Facilities Management Association.
  • Experience in a facilities management position.
  • Experience creating and managing a budget for a department.
  • Knowledge of fire suppression, electrical, and mechanical building systems.
  • Knowledge of building codes, OSHA and ADA regulations, and other federal and state policies.
  • Ability to effectively organize, direct, and supervise individuals and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic plan and provide leadership for construction, and redesigns of over 200 buildings and properties across Anoka County, including budgeting, planning, and reporting.
  • Develop and implement construction programs, quality control standards, and inspection schedules and ensure construction work and services are provided at a consistent level of quality and performance across all facilities.
  • Provide direction to facilities management and construction staff and collaborate and coordinate with leaders and teams throughout Anoka County.
  • Manage purchasing, replenishment, and inventory of all facilities and construction materials, supplies, and equipment used to construct and redesign county buildings and facilities.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Provide direction to staff to prioritize workloads, train/mentor team members, and collaborate and coordinate with leaders and teams throughout Anoka County.
  • Facilitate meetings with facilities and construction staff and engineers to review work completed, identified issues, project budgets, timelines, labor needs, policy updates, and ensure understanding on procedural follow through.
  • Lead, mentor and empower staff to make day-to-day decisions regarding facilities and construction while enforcing department policies, regulation, and budgets.
