About The Position

The Assistant Director is responsible for career advising and counseling for current students and recent alumni; the design and administration of internship programs; employer relations and partnership development; and the creation and delivery of programming that prepares students for successful experiential learning, career and graduate school outcomes. The Assistant Director will work closely with campus faculty, staff, and university-wide Experiential Education and Career Development colleagues to deliver an integrated, high-quality student experience aligned with the broader mission of experiential learning.

Requirements

Master's degree in Career Development, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and industry experience considered.
Minimum of four years of progressive experience in career services within a higher education setting.
Demonstrated experience providing individual career counseling across a broad range of career and employment issues.
Experience designing and delivering career-related workshops and programs for diverse student populations.
Knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, and occupational and career information sources, as well as graduate and professional school admissions processes.
Demonstrated knowledge of career development theory, counseling approaches, career decision-making frameworks, and job search methodologies.
Proficiency with career services technology platforms, including Symplicity/Career Connection required; familiarity with Handshake, Salesforce CRM, or similar platforms a plus.
Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
Commitment to data-informed decision-making and program assessment.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized career counseling and coaching to current students and recent alumni on career exploration, decision-making, self-assessment, goal setting, job and internship and experiential search strategies, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, and graduate and professional school admissions.
Utilize evidence-based career development frameworks and assessment tools to support students across all stages of their career journey, from orientation through graduation and beyond.
Present career development programming to first-year students during New Student Orientation, introducing the full scope of services available through EECD.
Continuously update and maintain digital career guides, resources, and career development platforms including, but not limited to, Career Launch Academy, GoinGlobal, CareerShift, Handshake, and the Career Connection/NU Works platform (Symplicity).
Develop, cultivate, and maintain employer relationships and networks to expand the range of internship, job, and experiential learning opportunities available to students.
Build and manage a robust pipeline of employer partners across New York City and beyond, with particular focus on industries relevant to MMC student populations.
Oversee the databases of jobs, internships, and volunteer positions; manage employer events including information sessions, site visits, and tabling; and engage faculty to promote employer classroom visits.
Collaborate with university-wide Experiential Partnerships Development colleagues to align MMC employer engagement strategies with institutional key account priorities and industry sector goals.
Track, analyze, and report on employer outreach targets, partnership activity, and program outcomes to inform strategic planning.
Design, develop, and deliver a comprehensive calendar of career workshops and programs covering resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, job search strategies, networking, LinkedIn and social media, graduate school preparation, and other relevant topics.
Initiate special programming and projects responsive to changing student needs and evolving marketplace trends.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student organizations to design and deliver integrated career development programming; build effective partnerships through ongoing communication and consultation.
Management of communications across all social media platforms and the campus engagement platform; develop content that promotes programs, events, and student and alumni success stories.
Plan and execute large-scale office events and contribute to division-wide programming initiatives.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop federal work-study students and other staff or student employees within the office, including scheduling, workflow management, and payroll oversight.
Manage the EECD marketing and events intern.
Lead ongoing program assessment efforts: design, distribute, and analyze student surveys including the Graduate Exit Survey; conduct needs assessments; and compile data to evaluate service delivery and outcomes.
Identify opportunities for operational improvement and recommend enhancements to policies, procedures, and service delivery models.
Serve on campus and university committees as a representative of EECD.
Perform other duties as assigned.
