About The Position

The Assistant Director, Community School & NDA Programs, is based within a Brooklyn public high school and supports the Community School Director in strengthening partnerships, coordinating programs, and enhancing family and community engagement. This role aligns Grand Street Settlement resources with school and community needs through extended learning opportunities, attendance interventions, and student and family support services. The Assistant Director also serves as the DYCD Neighborhood Development Area (NDA) Program Director, overseeing daily afterschool operations including scheduling, recruitment, enrollment, and workshop implementation. The role ensures high-quality programming focused on academic achievement, social-emotional development, and college and career readiness. This position supervises key program staff and ensures compliance with all programmatic and contractual requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or a minimum of 2 years of experience in youth development, community schools, or adolescent programming in urban, school-based settings.
  • Experience in program coordination, staff supervision, budget oversight, and event planning.
  • Strong ability to connect youth and families to resources and coordinate referrals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with school leadership and community stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with adolescents and families.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to working in diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email communication, and database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of a school environment that promotes student success, high attendance, and family engagement.
  • Coordinate programs and services addressing students’ social-emotional well-being and mental health.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with community-based organizations and service providers.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, school staff, and partner organizations.
  • Participate in the School Leadership Team (SLT) and attend regular meetings with school leadership.
  • Collaborate with teachers and grade teams to support student success initiatives.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting on a bi-weekly basis to inform program decisions.
  • Identify and support chronically absent students, including obtaining parent/guardian consent for services.
  • Connect students to prevention, early intervention, and intensive support services.
  • Engage families and caregivers in supporting student academic progress and well-being.
  • Oversee daily afterschool program operations, including scheduling, recruitment, enrollment, and workshop implementation.
  • Ensure programming aligns with goals related to academic improvement, social-emotional learning, and college/career readiness.
  • Supervise the Family Development Coach and Activity Specialist, including oversight of a caseload of approximately 35 students.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of participant contacts, case notes, and service plans in compliance with program requirements.
  • Utilize DYCD Connect to track attendance, program performance, and contractual outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the community-based organization and school leadership to ensure alignment between school-day and afterschool initiatives.
