About The Position

The Assistant Director for Aquatics is responsible for the successful development of aquatic programs and management of aquatic facilities which include an indoor Olympic size pool and an outdoor pool and sun deck. This position hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates all aquatic staff and develops, implements, and promotes aquatic programs to include Learn to Swim Lessons, American Red Cross certification courses and Scuba Diving certification course. The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for establishing risk management procedures relevant to this functional area and conducting staff training regularly to review procedures. Additional responsibilities include payroll processing, scheduling all activities and special events in the pool, and staff development. In addition to program duties, this position is a vital member of a Campus Recreation team of professional staff and will assist in developing and facilitating the growth of recreational programs for the university community, promoting departmental programs, assisting with departmental special events and serving on university committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 8 years of relevant experience
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and WSI Certifications

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree
  • 2 years of experience overseeing a university-based aquatics facility
  • 2 years of direct supervisory experience of aquatic staff in an educational setting
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certifications or the ability to obtain the certification in the first six months of employment
  • Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or the ability to obtain the certification in the first six months of employment

Responsibilities

  • Develop aquatic programs and manage aquatic facilities.
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all aquatic staff.
  • Develop, implement, and promote aquatic programs including Learn to Swim Lessons, American Red Cross certification courses, and Scuba Diving certification courses.
  • Establish risk management procedures relevant to the aquatic area and conduct regular staff training on these procedures.
  • Process payroll.
  • Schedule all activities and special events in the pool.
  • Engage in staff development.
  • Assist in developing and facilitating the growth of recreational programs for the university community.

  • Serve on university committees.
