About The Position

The Massachusetts Port Authority is seeking an Assistant Director, Airport Operations. This role is for a strategic and decisive leader who excels in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment where safety, compliance, and operational excellence are paramount. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Science, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience supporting airport, airline, or aviation operations environments.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in airport or airline operations, including extensive knowledge of aircraft operations, airfield activities, regulatory compliance requirements, and a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations, airport certification standards, aviation safety and security requirements, and operational best practices, with the ability to obtain and maintain all required licenses, certifications, security clearances, and airport operating credentials.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex operational situations, lead teams through emergencies and rapidly changing conditions, and effectively collaborate with regulatory agencies, airline partners, tenants, and other airport stakeholders in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and support airport operations personnel through effective workforce planning, coaching, training, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives that promote accountability, professionalism, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee airfield safety, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness programs by applying expert knowledge of FAA requirements, industry standards, airport certification practices, and emerging aviation trends to maintain a safe and efficient operating environment.
  • Collaborate closely with regulatory agencies, airline partners, tenants, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to evaluate operational impacts, provide technical expertise, advance strategic initiatives, and ensure the successful execution of airport projects and programs.
  • Provide leadership during emergency response events, snow and ice operations, critical incidents, and evolving operational challenges while driving continuous improvement, enhancing safety performance, supporting effective decision-making, and maintaining the highest standards of operational integrity and customer service.
