About The Position

Urban Outfitters is seeking an Assistant Designer to join the Out From Under (OFU) team! Out From Under specializes in lounge, athleisure, and intimates, creating distinctive collections that balance comfort, innovation, and a strong point of view while reflecting the evolving lifestyle of the Urban Outfitters customer. The Assistant Designer supports the Design team in bringing the seasonal creative vision to life through trend and market research, sketching, CAD development, sample execution, assortment maintenance, and presentation preparation. This role requires a strong understanding of the Urban Outfitters customer, a keen awareness of emerging trends, excellent creative and technical design skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to stay highly organized in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about lounge, athleisure, and intimates, with a strong eye for silhouette, fabric, color, detail, and styling. They are collaborative, proactive, and adaptable, with the ability to independently manage assignments and priorities while communicating effectively with Design leads, cross-functional partners, and vendors. This individual will help ensure that product is executed thoughtfully and consistently reflects the OFU creative vision and original design intent.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to prompt AI to render imagery for creative and presentation purposes (MidJourney, PromeAi, and ChatGPT).
  • Highly organized with flexibility in a fast paced environment and adaptability to frequent changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design or related area of Study preferred.
  • 1-2 Years Design Experience at a similar brand or organization preferred.
  • Tradestone and BOM maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing presentation materials for seasonal benchmark meetings such as Sketch Review, Finalization, and Print & Color day.
  • Sketch design ideas accurately and emotionally while maintaining a good sense of proportion and can accurately illustrate details to communicate design vision to manager.
  • Possesses mocking, draping, sewing, and other technical skills related to garment making.
  • Tracks, manages and organizes department samples.
  • Maintain organized and up to date line sheet and assortment tools at all time.
  • Maintains awareness of trend, shares research and inspiration with team (social media, retail experience, street-style, competitive shopping and vintage exploration as it relates to the UO product).
  • Brand ambassador and role model of our values.
  • Demonstrates a close connection to UO customer.
  • Works with design leads to execute creative vision in samples and presentations.
  • Analyze sales metrics every Monday to understand business and sell through of product.
  • Maintaining and updating CADs for seasonal assortment in Adobe XD.
  • General understanding and awareness of overall fit, fabric and construction intentions.
  • Investigates design solutions for projects with an awareness of cost, process, and impact on partners.
  • Independently executes assignments once given direction and effectively manages up in a timely manner.
  • Develops well thought out comments and opinions using both POV and data to contribute during meetings.
  • Openness to critique and ability to receive feedback openly and positively.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively both internally and with cross-functional partners and vendors to ensure product execution reflects design intent.
  • Takes responsibility for organizing their work, time management and recognizing conditions and results that may impact the assignment.
  • Maintains courteous, professional email/phone and interpersonal relationships with cross-functional partners and vendors.
  • Flexible, adaptable and responsive to fast-paced work environment while maintaining style and design vision integrity.
