This position is responsible for training and developing Product Sales Specialists and ensuring that customers have a positive shopping experience by receiving exceptional customer service and product information. The Assistant Department Manager acts and works in a manner that is consistent with the company’s core values. They demonstrate a thorough understanding and compliance with the company’s safe lifting practices standard operating procedures and the ability to drive and teach the company philosophy around the basic P’s of retail (People, Position, Product, Presentation, Price, Promotion, Purchasing). This role provides direction to all product sales specialists to ensure a highly attentive and accurate level of customer service, and requires completion of all product specialist certification courses. The Assistant Department Manager demonstrates a thorough understanding of merchandise and installation, and ensures the overall merchandising, pricing, and organization of the department. They communicate standard operating procedure direction and changes to all associates in a timely manner, complete Industrial Truck (forklift) proficiency testing and certification, and communicate inventory needs to management. This role also directs and assists the processing of merchandise to the showroom floor, validates all product placement and pricing within the department, greets every customer in a helpful and courteous manner, assists customers with product questions and selections, processes customers at check-out using the point of sale (POS) system, and handles customer refunds and exchanges according to established guidelines. Additionally, they present ‘how-to’ classes to customers, follow established cash, check and charge card acceptance procedures, answer the telephone according to accepted guidelines, and stock and tag merchandise displays as required, creating price tags and merchandise signs.
