This position is responsible for training and developing Product Sales Specialists and ensuring that customers have a positive shopping experience by receiving exceptional customer service and product information. The Assistant Department Manager acts and works in a manner that is consistent with the company’s core values. They demonstrate a thorough understanding and compliance with the company’s safe lifting practices standard operating procedures and the ability to drive and teach the company philosophy around the basic P’s of retail (People, Position, Product, Presentation, Price, Promotion, Purchasing). This role provides direction to all product sales specialists to ensure a highly attentive and accurate level of customer service, and requires completion of all product specialist certification courses and Industrial Truck (forklift) proficiency testing and certification. The Assistant Department Manager ensures the overall merchandising, pricing, and organization of the department, communicates standard operating procedure direction and changes to all associates in a timely manner, and communicates inventory needs to management. They direct and assist the processing of merchandise to the showroom floor, validate all product placement and pricing within the department, and greet every customer in a helpful and courteous manner. Additionally, they assist customers with product questions and selections, process customers at check-out using the point of sale (POS) system, and handle customer refunds and exchanges according to established guidelines. The role also involves presenting ‘how-to’ classes to customers, following established cash, check, and charge card acceptance procedures, answering the telephone according to accepted guidelines, and stocking and tagging merchandise displays as required. Creating price tags and merchandise signs is also a responsibility.
