This position is responsible for training and developing Product Sales Specialists and ensuring that customers have a positive shopping experience by receiving exceptional customer service and product information. The Assistant Department Manager acts and works in a manner that is consistent with the company’s core values. They demonstrate a thorough understanding and compliance with the company’s safe lifting practices standard operating procedures and the ability to drive and teach the company philosophy around the basic P’s of retail. The basic P’s of retail include but are not limited to: People, Position, Product, Presentation, Price, Promotion, Purchasing. They provide direction to all product sales specialists to ensure a highly attentive and accurate level of customer service, complete all product specialist certification courses, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of merchandise and installation. The role ensures the overall merchandising, pricing, and organization of the department, communicates standard operating procedure direction and changes to all associates in a timely manner, and completes the Industrial Truck (forklift) proficiency testing and certification. The Assistant Department Manager communicates inventory needs to management, directs and assists the processing of merchandise to the showroom floor, validates all product placement and pricing within the department, greets every customer in a helpful and courteous manner, assists customers with product questions and selections, processes customers at check-out using the point of sale (POS) system, processes customer refunds and exchanges according to established guidelines, presents ‘how-to’ classes to customers, and follows established cash, check and charge card acceptance procedures. They also answer the telephone according to accepted guidelines, stock and tag merchandise displays as required, and create price tags and merchandise signs.
