About The Position

Lincoln Southwest High School is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in coaching debate to serve as an Assistant Debate Coach. Applicants must possess a valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate or Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate. The successful candidate will have experience in a variety of debate presentation formats and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with all students, regardless of event participation, culture, ethnicity, or background. The debate season runs throughout the school year, from fall through spring. Candidates should possess strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills and be committed to supporting student growth both competitively and academically. This position is subject to a veterans preference.

Requirements

  • Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate or Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate.
  • Experience in a variety of debate presentation formats.
  • Ability to work effectively with all students, regardless of event participation, culture, ethnicity, or background.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to supporting student growth both competitively and academically.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the planning and supervision of after-school debate practices.
  • Working with students on preparation, research, presentation skills, and performance for debate competitions.
  • Supporting students across multiple debate events and formats.
  • Traveling with students to tournaments both within and outside the Lincoln area.
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive, and educational environment for all participants.
  • Collaborating with the Head Debate Coach to develop and fulfill additional program responsibilities.
