About The Position

The Assistant Dean, Student Success provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for integrated, holistic student success, engagement, and wellness initiatives that support the undergraduate and graduate student experience at UNH Manchester. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Professional Studies, this position leads campus-wide retention and early intervention efforts, oversees academic advising and student engagement functions, and uses data-informed strategies to improve student persistence, retention, and graduation outcomes. The Assistant Dean also serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the Manchester campus.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration or related field with a minimum of six years of progressively responsible leadership experience in Student Affairs/Student Success.
  • Comprehensive understanding and appreciation and support of undergraduate and graduate student life at a diverse, urban institution plus a commitment to improving the lives of students.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, antiracism, and the ability to foster inclusive communities.
  • Experience working with students, faculty and staff to deliver collaborative initiatives, programmatic support, and offer advice and guidance that enhances student performance and development.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, written, and on-line communication skills.
  • Effectiveness in budget planning and management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experiences with student development, assessment, counseling students, and resolution of student issues and crisis effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with special sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support to create integrated, inclusive, holistic student engagement and wellness enrichment opportunities that transcend throughout the UNH Manchester student experience through co-curricular programming and student services collaborations.
  • Supervise the Office of Student Engagement, Academic Advising, Center for Academic Enrichment, Downtown Commons Residential Housing, and Manchester's International Student Academic Advisor.
  • Administrative role with Residential Life (Downtown Commons) to provide support to residential life team including housing opening and closing policies and procedures, direct communications to residents, emergency and on-call services.
  • Serve as the Title IX Deputy Intake Coordinator for the UNH Manchester campus. Provides on-site resource and support for Manchester students regarding Title IX investigations, processes and procedures. Serve as a Hearing Office on Durham campus when needed.
  • Chair, Behavioral Intervention Team. Chair responsibilities include convening meetings: agenda facilitation and note taking for follow up, facilitate development of UNH Manchester BIT protocol, processes and procedures.
  • Assist UNH Manchester undergraduate and graduate International students in reaching settlement of their informal requests or complaints through consultation, mediation and counseling; refers issues with a formal avenue of redress to appropriate University offices for resolution.
  • Assist students in understanding their rights and responsibilities as community members and the university conduct system.
  • Work with Student Conduct and appropriate University officials to facilitate satisfactory solutions to issues and problems that fall within the responsibilities of the Dean of Students Office.
  • Advise the Dean of Students on complaints with no definitive remedy and makes recommendation for resolution.
  • Provide ongoing crisis support and intervention to students, staff and faculty on an as needed basis. This includes initial intervention and implementation of de-escalation strategies, as well as, contacting the Mobile Crisis Team, UNH Manchester Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), SHARPP, Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion, YWCA, and onsite mental health counselors if needed and available.
  • Oversee and manage MOUs with the following organizations: New England College, Manchester Community College, YMCA, YWCA, SHARPP, and Greater Manchester Mental Health
  • Use retention and student success data to report on and improve measures of student persistence, retention, success and graduation rates.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and enrollment management to evaluate and implement retention initiatives that span the student lifecycle.
  • Serve on the following committees and task forces: UNH Title IX Advisory Council, UNH Wellness Task Force, USNH Mental Health Consortium, UNH Bias Response Team, Student Success Summit, Hillsborough SART, NH College Consortium for Interpersonal and Sexual Assault, Staff Appreciation Committee, UNHM Space Allocation Committee
  • Support the Early Alert program to foster student retention and success.
  • Actively meet with students to assist in navigating college life and supporting the in the resolution of barriers.
  • Build relationships across campus to understand policies and procedures to foster student growth.
  • Oversee UNH Manchester Food Pantry daily operations and partnership with NH Food Bank.
  • Use retention and student success data to report on and improve measures of student persistence, retention, success and graduation rates.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and enrollment management to evaluate and implement retention initiatives that span the student lifecycle.
  • Work closely with Enrollment Management on Student Success involvement at large recruitment events.
  • Oversee the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester to coordinate mental health counselor scheduling, schedule training and additional mental health programming for faculty, staff, and students in alignment with wellness campus initiatives and programming
  • Oversee the budgets for the Office of Student Engagement, Academic Advising, Center for Academic Enrichment, Student Activities, New Student Orientation, UNH Manchester Food Pantry, Downtown Commons Residential Housing, and Assistant Dean of Student Success
