About The Position

The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Engagement Initiatives is in charge of all aspects of the law school student life, academic counseling, academic success, bar passage programs, and student engagement initiatives. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

  • A law degree from an accredited law school is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a wide variety of programs ensuring that law students succeed academically, personally, and professionally
  • Handle all aspects of the law school academic counseling
  • Serves as primary academic advisor for student veterans, concurrent degree students, readmitted students, and students required to maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • Support activities related to orientations for entering students and academic success programs
  • Administer bar passage program
  • Assist student organizations in establishing appropriate governance structures and in complying with all law school and university requirements
  • Advise and counsel the Student Bar Association
  • Supervise and coordinate student counseling and intervention efforts
  • Assists students seeking university services, including financial aid and other matters
  • Supervises law school health and wellness programming
  • Develop, administer, and assess programming to further the law school's efforts to attract and serve a cross-section of Arkansas citizens and develop initiatives to encourage robust engagement and a culture of belonging in members of the law school community
  • Develop and administer the law school's student affairs budget
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of any assigned personnel
  • Manage and maintain student information appropriately and confidentiality
  • Maintain academic success data and produce ad hoc reports as requested by the Dean and the Associate Dean
  • Cultivate and support student engagement programming at the Law School, including sharing ideas, information, and opportunities to support all students with the Dean and other senior leadership
  • Represent the law school at admissions events aimed at prospective students and engage directly with student prospects, including helping with pipeline programs
  • Collaborate with Law School administrative offices to support students from a broad spectrum of communities at the Law School and in the legal profession
  • Serve as a liaison and Law School representative to student affairs and groups at the University, other law schools, and national and local organizations
  • Identify and implement instruments to monitor and measure the impact of student engagement initiatives quantitatively and qualitatively consistently
  • Serve on faculty committees regarding student engagement policies and initiatives as needed
  • Maintain academic support data and produce ad hoc reports as requested by the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
  • Teach academic support and bar passage courses
