About The Position

The Assistant Dean for External Education provides administrative oversight for Cornell Law School’s international programs, executive education, and the Master of Science in Legal Studies (MSLS) degree. This role involves collaborating with various Cornell units and external partners to develop and implement diverse educational programs. The Assistant Dean is responsible for strategic leadership, program development, budget management, and staff supervision within the External Education department. A key aspect of this role is fostering a culture of belonging and a healthy work environment through effective communication, collaboration, and respect for diversity.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Initiative, strong leadership skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strong oral, written, organizational, communication and presentation skills.
  • A high degree of professionalism, discretion, confidentiality, diplomacy, and excellent judgment in difficult situations.
  • Ability to form positive relationships and collaborate with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff, as well as cultivate an inclusive environment where a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives is welcome.
  • Strong time management skills with an ability and willingness to adjust to changing priorities on very short notice as well as the ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative oversight for Cornell Law School’s international programs, executive education, and the Master of Science in Legal Studies (MSLS) degree.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the MSLS degree program in collaboration with the Academic Director, including coordinating faculty, communicating with students, admitting students, liaising with eCornell on marketing, and coordinating intensive seminars.
  • Provide leadership and direction for international dual-degree programs, specialized international degree programs (JD/LLM and JD with Specialization in International Legal Affairs), and study abroad programs for JD students.
  • Negotiate memoranda of understanding, exchange, and other agreements with partner institutions worldwide.
  • Provide strategic leadership in identifying and developing executive education opportunities in collaboration with faculty, aligning offerings with institutional priorities and market needs.
  • Lead partnerships with campus stakeholders and eCornell to develop and expand online learning offerings.
  • Provide leadership and direction to External Education staff, establishing priorities, allocating resources, and ensuring effective program delivery.
  • Develop annual budgets and supervise accounts for all External Education programs.
  • Provide senior-level oversight of stakeholder engagement across all programs, serving as the primary institutional contact for students, faculty, and partners.
  • Collaborate with various Cornell units, including eCornell, the Einaudi Center, the Office of the Vice Provost for International Relations, the Office of University Counsel, and Risk Management.
