About The Position

The Assistant Dean for Curriculum, Pre-Clerkship serves as a vital leadership role within Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP). This position has primary responsibility for the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the first two years of the medical curriculum. UICOMP is a regional campus of one of the largest public medical schools in the United States, known for its small class sizes and exceptional faculty mentorship, allowing students to excel under a rigorous curriculum. UICOMP faculty provide care to over 45,000 patients annually and contribute to the education and training of over 260 medical students and more than 300 residents and fellows. UICOMP's healthcare partners include Jump Simulation, OSF Saint Medical Center, OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois, and Carle Hearth Greater Peoria. The institution is also part of an R1 research institute with translational research in Alzheimer's dementia and oncology.

Requirements

MD/DO (or foreign equivalent) or PhD/EdD degree
Minimum of five years of experience in the education of medical students, including some involvement in either the medical school years one and two (M1 and M2) curriculum

Responsibilities

Provide leadership in the development, implementation, innovation, and evaluation of the undergraduate pre-clinical curriculum by working with department heads/chairs, course directors, staff and individual course faculty.
Discuss program evaluation of medical school years one and two (M1 and M2) curriculum with students and faculty to bring about curricular improvement.
Serve as liaison on both local and college curriculum committees as a representative of academic affairs Peoria.
Collaborate with assistant deans/associate deans locally and across the college to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding the M1/M2 curriculum that are aligned with accreditation standards, guidelines, and educational outcomes.
Participate in regional and national presentations and other scholarly activities to highlight the work done on the Peoria campus.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
