About The Position

The Assistant Custodian is responsible for assisting the plant manager in maintaining the safety, security, cleanliness, and appearance of the physical plant. This role also assumes full responsibility in the absence of the Head Custodian. The position involves a variety of tasks including building operations, maintenance, groundskeeping, and supervision of custodial staff.

Requirements

Must be able to read and write effectively.
Must be able to comprehend instructions on the operation of equipment of all types and the use of chemicals.
Must have the ability to perform light maintenance functions.
Basic math skills are necessary to review purchase receipts and timekeeping information.
Must be able to read and comprehend service order and repair request documents, and write out job completion information.
Employee is expected to provide and wear appropriate clothing for all weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

Operates heating and air conditioning system in absence of engineer.
Supervises custodial staff, inspects their work, assign duties keeps and reports the time for himself and personnel, etc. in coordination with principal.
Light maintenance functions, makes minor repairs such as replacing faucet handles, light switches, door knobs and door adjustments, glass repairs, painting, etc. for all buildings on school plant.

Responsibilities

Opens and secures the building daily.
Operates heating and air conditioning systems in the absence of an engineer and ensures proper room ventilation.
Replaces light globes and fluorescent tubes.
Receives supplies, checks inventory, and requests janitorial supplies.
Supplies custodial staff, cafeteria, and stadium with necessary items.
Reports vandalism and the daily condition of the school to the principal.
Checks fire fighting and playground equipment for safety and proper functioning.
Repairs, removes, or secures unsafe equipment and reports it to the principal.
Maintains the school yard, including cutting grass, maintaining shrubs, and watering.
Removes trash and debris from the premises.
Buffs floors as needed.
Maintains the cleanliness of halls and entrances throughout the day.
Checks boys' dressing rooms during the day.
Cleans classroom units according to the work schedule and school needs.
Raises and lowers the flag.
Is available for school and school-sponsored activities.
Sets up for assemblies, conferences, plays, and programs when required.
