About The Position

Monmouth University is seeking an Assistant Cross Country/Track and Field Coach in the Athletics department. The candidate would be expected to oversee the training of the track and field/cross-country student-athletes throughout the year, schedule and plan for track meets as required, including making travel arrangements for the team and meals when needed, direct student-athletes with event-specific instruction at practice and at meets, and oversee recruiting (official visits, calls, emails) and coordinate recruiting efforts with other staff members. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three (3) years of coaching experience at a high school or college level in cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field, or four (4) years competing on a collegiate level in the sport of cross country and track field.
  • Demonstrated coaching and recruiting success.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • A valid driver’s license in your state of residence and have had no serious violations (Type A) within the past five (5) years and no more than three (3) moving violations (Type B) in the past three (3) years.
  • CPR and NCAA recruiting certification must be attained within six months from date of hire.
  • Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Must have an understanding of the University's concern for academics as well as athletic excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • USA Track and Field (USATF) Level I recognition or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a training regimen for student athletes throughout the year.
  • Schedule, recruit and coordinate travel for specific team members.
  • Assist in the selection and ordering of appropriate equipment for student-athlete and team use.
  • Check academic progress for current student- athletes and NCAA Eligibility Center status for prospective student athletes.
  • Oversee recruiting (official visits, calls, emails) for specific athletes and coordinate recruiting efforts with other staff members.
  • Send out regular mailings and make weekly recruiting calls to potential student athletes.
  • Coordinate fund raising efforts with the Blue and White club, which is the fundraising arm of Monmouth University Athletics.
  • Coordinate team and individual meetings for student-athletes.
  • Assist with the preparation for and management of home cross country and track and field meets with the coaching staff, including both collegiate and community events.
  • Direct student-athletes with event-specific instruction at practice and at meets.
  • Work with the strength coach staff to create a strength training plan for these athletes and oversee those sessions in the weight room.
  • Continue professional development and research into track and field training techniques.
  • Manage a database to track potential student-athletes using ARMS Software (or any future program) and current Admission Office software in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Create events in conjunction with the rest of the staff to further develop a championship team culture, promote team unity, and ensure academic excellence.
  • Schedule practices in conjunction with the Athletic department as well as the rest of the coaching staff.
  • Responsible for adhering to policies and procedures governing the Department of Athletics and the University and any applicable rules and regulations associated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) or any other conference or organization with which the University is or becomes associated with which affects University Athletics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field Coach or the program and the team’s sports supervisor and athletic administrators.
