About The Position

The Tabby House Brewing Company is seeking an Assistant Craft Brewer to join their team. This role involves a variety of tasks across cellar and packaging operations, cleaning and sanitation, quality and brewing support, warehouse and inventory management, and general brewery operations. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, be comfortable with physical demands and chemical handling, and possess good troubleshooting and communication skills. Previous experience in a production brewery is preferred.

Requirements

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to be on feet all day and able to lift 55+ lbs regularly.
  • Comfortable working with chemicals and willingness to adhere to safety, environmental and brewhouse standards at all times.
  • Good troubleshooting skills, and strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a production brewery is often required, though homebrewing experience can also be a factor.
  • 1+ Year previous experience at a brewery as an assistant brewer, brewer, or cellarman is preferred but not required.
  • Degree or background in biology, chemistry or engineering is a bonus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Keg washing and filling.
  • Can and bottle packaging.
  • Finished beer filtration and tank-to-tank transfers.
  • Understanding pump functions and balance lines.
  • Carbonating beer to proper specifications.
  • Monitoring fermentation and conditioning processes.
  • CIP, sanitation, and passivation of fermentation, conditioning, and brewing vessels.
  • Safe handling of standard brewery caustics and acids using company-specified PPE.
  • Cleaning and maintaining cellar space, tank exteriors, parts, drains, racks, floors, and equipment.
  • Dissolved oxygen testing and carbonation testing.
  • Water mineral testing.
  • Maintaining water tank levels and temperature.
  • Performing cell counts and proper yeast handling.
  • Warehousing and receiving malt, hops, and other raw materials.
  • Logging and managing inventory (grain, yeast, hops, kegs, packaged goods, etc.).
  • Safe operation of walk-behind and ride-on motorized forklifts.
  • Basic brewhouse mechanical and plumbing operation.
  • Assisting with various production-related tasks.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
