About The Position

Ontario County, County Attorney’s Office is looking for qualified applicants to fill a full-time Assistant County Attorney position in their office. This role will act as legal counsel to the Board of Supervisors, the County Administrator, and the County’s departments and officers. The County Attorney’s Office is a multifunctional office which provides counsel for defense of civil actions against Ontario County, juvenile delinquency prosecution, counsel for the County’s Department of Social Services including family court and Medicare fraud, contract review and approval, risk management, counsel on legal matters at Finger Lakes Community College, labor relations, policy development and implementation, and various other areas of municipal law.

Requirements

A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to practice law in NYS at time of appointment.
0 to 5 years’ experience in the areas mentioned in the description of duties.

Nice To Haves

Unlicensed law degree graduate awaiting bar exam/bar results for admission may be hired at lower salary band and will move to the Associate Level salary band once they have successfully passed the bar.

Responsibilities

Act as legal counsel to the Board of Supervisors, the County Administrator, and the County’s departments and officers.
Provide counsel for the defense of civil actions against Ontario County.
Prosecute juvenile delinquency cases.
Provide counsel for the County’s Department of Social Services, including family court matters and Medicare fraud.
Review and approve contracts.
Handle risk management.
Provide counsel on legal matters at Finger Lakes Community College.
Engage in labor relations.
Develop and implement policy.
Handle various other areas of municipal law.
