About The Position

The Assistant Counselor at Apachi Day Camp (Horwich) works closely with the Lead Counselor and Unit Director to implement age-appropriate activities and maintain a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for campers. This role requires adherence to all camp policies and procedures, active participation in staff training sessions and orientation before the camp season, and attendance at weekly staff meetings. The Assistant Counselor is responsible for keeping the Lead Counselor and Director informed of any camper-related issues. Key duties include implementing daily routines, schedules, and procedures for the group's operation, and fostering positive working relationships with all camp staff. The position involves implementing programs in line with camp objectives, utilizing creativity for group time activities, and assisting with both instructional and recreational swim as directed. A core responsibility is to know each camper in the group and all camp staff, sharing in the overall safety and well-being of the campers, and ensuring no camper is left unattended. The Assistant Counselor will actively participate in and help implement various group and specialist activities, including facilitating Jewish learning in camp programs where applicable. This role also involves sharing responsibility for the care of equipment and cleanliness of camp facilities, composing group newsletters to inform parents, and assisting with late-night or overnight programs. Additional duties include assisting with camper arrival and dismissal, exhibiting high energy, enthusiasm, a positive and flexible attitude, and remaining available for all camp-related activities. The Assistant Counselor will also contribute to the staff evaluation process and the overall evaluation of camp programs at the season's conclusion, performing other duties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Follow camp policies and procedures
  • Participate in staff training sessions and orientation prior to the start of camp season

  • Compose group newsletter or article informing parents of Unit, group and camp activities

  • Remain flexible and available to carry forth with all camp related activities
