About The Position

The Labor and Employment Law Division of the New York City Law Department seeks an Electronic Discovery attorney with a minimum of three years of litigation experience to assist Division attorneys with electronic discovery production. The Labor and Employment Law Division defends the City in complex and challenging state and federal actions arising out of the City's role as an employer. Division attorneys handle a variety of matters including First Amendment retaliation; gender, race, age and disability discrimination; civil service law issues; and wage and hour litigation. The Electronic Discovery attorney will assist Division attorneys in conducting paper and electronic searches for document production and will also work with other City agencies’ IT systems in order to assist in discovery matters. The Electronic Discovery attorney will be expected to advise on all phases of e-discovery, including issuing preservation notices, drafting and negotiating agreements pertaining to electronically stored information (ESI), evaluating confidentiality stipulations, and reviewing correspondence and motions, both affirmative and responsive, related to the production of ESI. The Electronic Discovery attorney will also attend meet-and-confers with adversaries and court conferences at which ESI issues will be addressed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of litigation experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in the State of New York.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electronic discovery management.
  • Understanding of and exposure to litigation involving the exchange of paper and electronic discovery.
  • Experience in large case volume.
  • Experience and strong technical skills with litigation support and document review platforms.
  • Ability to communicate technical ESI concepts to attorneys and clients.
  • Admission to practice in the Southern and Eastern District Courts of New York.

Responsibilities
