Assistant Cook-Overnight Summer Camp
About The Position
The Sonoma County Family YMCA is looking for two enthusiastic and dependable Assistant Cooks to join our summer camp team at Camp Ravencliff, our overnight camp nestled in the redwoods. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who loves kitchen teamwork, enjoys a fast‑paced environment, and wants to be part of a mission‑driven youth program. As the Assistant Cook, you’ll support the Camp Cook in preparing and serving three meals a day, maintain kitchen sanitation standards, assist with inventory and supplies, and help create a positive dining experience for campers and staff. You'll also play an important role in fostering the sense of community that makes camp special.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of food‑service experience
- Knowledge of safe food‑handling and storage practices
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in an active, outdoor camp setting
- Strong teamwork, communication, and flexibility
Nice To Haves
- ServSafe certification preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and serving daily meals
- Follow proper sanitation, food‑safety, and allergy‑protocol procedures
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen
- Support meal cleanup and periodic deep cleaning
- Pick up weekly supply orders and restock kitchen items
- Attend staff trainings and meetings
- Contribute to a positive, supportive camp culture
