About The Position

An Assistant Cook is responsible for assisting the Head Cook in preparing and cooking various food items according to the recipes. This role involves preparing various food products, observing and enforcing food safety requirements, and working collaboratively as a member of a team. Additional responsibilities may be added as deemed necessary. The position also involves providing leadership, coaching, training, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, communicating production progress or concerns to higher-level management, monitoring compliance and safety rule adherence, and maintaining the flow of equipment and food at workstations. The Assistant Cook will also assist the Supervisor or Manager in running the shift.

Requirements

  • 2 years in the related field
  • Recipe conversion experience is required to accommodate the kitchen’s daily production needs.
  • Experience with maintaining temperature logs for all food items prepared.
  • Leadership skills
  • Has good understanding of the unit's operational processes
  • Must be able to read and write to complete required forms
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move product, equipment and supplies up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Regularly stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during shifts of 8+ hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary degree and/or cook certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares fish, beef, pork, poultry and other food products including vegetables and starches for the cook
  • Observes and enforces strict requirements with regards to food safety.
  • Follow directions.
  • Works as a member of a team.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, training and/or mentoring to a subordinate group
  • Communicates to higher level manager frequently on production progress or concerns (staffing, shortages, delivery system, etc.)
  • Monitors compliance and safety rule adherence at the work stations
  • Maintains the flow of equipment and food at work stations
  • Assists the Supervisor or Manager in running the shift
  • Comply with company policies
  • Complete required paperwork
  • Handle various food products such as seafood, beef, pork, poultry, fruits, and vegetables.
  • Handle knives and kitchen tools properly.
