About The Position

Bay Breeze Care is a 76-bed assisted living facility in Long Beach, CA, catering to adults aged 18-59 with mental health issues. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Cook to join our Dietary team. The schedule required is Saturday through Wednesday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. We offer a $500 sign-on bonus. We are looking for a candidate who can pass a DOJ FBI live scan criminal background clearance, a pre-employment physical and drug screening, and possesses a high school diploma or GED. Experience in an assisted living environment is preferred. The role involves preparing and serving food, meeting special dietary needs, ensuring food safety, ordering groceries, managing food budgets, maintaining kitchen equipment, and attending staff meetings. The Assistant Cook must be aware of individual resident preferences and health restrictions, and enforce cleaning schedules. Flexible scheduling is required, potentially including weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • Able to pass DOJ FBI live scan criminal background clearance mandated by Community Care Licensing.
  • Able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve food to residents in our community.
  • Ensure all special dietary needs are met and preparing texture modified food as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with all record keeping, food safety and risk management requirements.
  • Train new kitchen aide and other staff on proper cooking routines and kitchen procedures.
  • Follow facility menu and maintain portion control as directed by dietitian.
  • Identify and develop new initiatives and areas of improvements to better serve our residents.
  • Order, receive, verify and sign for groceries and deliveries.
  • Maintain and appropriately handle facility food budgets.
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintenance of all kitchen equipment and dining room utensils, informing Administrator of any challenges or safety hazards.
  • Attend all monthly in-services and facility staff meetings obtaining proper documentation of each meeting or training.
  • Be fully aware of individual resident likes, dislikes and health restrictions.
  • Supervise food production for quality of products and service.
  • Prepare and enforce daily, weekly and monthly kitchen cleaning schedules to maintain compliance with safety and health restrictions.
