About The Position

The Accounting Assistant Controller will play a key role in managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all accounting functions. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role supports month-end closings, financial reporting, audit preparation, monitoring and execution of internal controls, and the implementation of accounting best practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical accounting knowledge, analytical skills, problem solving, and the ability to lead and collaborate effectively within the accounting, finance, and operations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8 + years of progressive accounting experience
  • At least 3 + years in managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including percentage of completion revenue recognition, and financial reporting standards and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial analysis tools.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership along with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or move items weighing up to 15–20 pounds.
  • Visual ability to read financial documents, spreadsheets, reports, and computer screens.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and accuracy while performing detailed financial and analytical work.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Microsoft Dynamics and One Stream is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Mandatory experience with percentage of completion revenue recognition and project cost accounting.
  • Lead and manage general ledger closing activities, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Support the development and maintenance of effective internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with management to prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and quarterly reviews, providing required documentation and explanations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance accuracy, and improve reporting timeliness.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations and mentor accounting staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all tax filings, financial reports, and compliance obligations are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist with the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of accounting software and related systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
