About The Position

Capriotti's Sandwich Shop is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Controller to join our Finance & Accounting team. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional to play a key leadership role within a growing franchise organization, supporting both corporate operations and franchise development across multiple entities. The Assistant Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, support financial reporting and analysis, drive process improvements, and partner with leadership to ensure accurate financial information that supports strategic decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and GAAP.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to various levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation.
  • Experience within the restaurant, franchise, hospitality, or retail industries.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including banking, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
  • Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process while maintaining a seven-day close timeline.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop financial reports, KPI dashboards, variance analyses, and ad hoc reporting for senior leadership and investors.
  • Oversee franchise-related accounting activities, including royalties, franchise fees, marketing fund deposits, franchisee bill-backs, rebates, invoicing, collections, and reconciliations.
  • Coordinate annual audit preparation and work closely with external auditors and tax professionals.
  • Prepare and file annual personal property tax returns for multiple entities.
  • Manage workers' compensation premium audits and related reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiencies, internal controls, and financial systems.
  • Assist with implementation of new technologies, policies, and procedures.
  • Mentor and support accounting team members while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
